The collection consists of two letters: to Aubrey Hodes, 19 Aug. 1962, commenting on the quality of the translation of Fortunes of a fool, but preferring Kafka; to Hans Erich Lampl, 23 Apr. 1971, agreeing that he would look favorably on a German translation of his The Nazarene Gospel restored, but believes a publisher would be difficult to find. He also mention he has finished a play on St. Paul, comparing him to Hitler.

Robert (Von Ranke) Graves was born in London in 1895. He attended King's College School and Rokeby School, Wimbledon, Copthorne School, Sussex, Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, 1907-14. In 1926, he received a B. Litt. From St. John's College, Oxford. He was the author of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, autobiographies, historical novels, essays, librettos, criticism, short stories, and children’s books.
